Author Information
Phelicia Lang is a California native with roots in the Bay Area. She’s a wife, mother of four children, and a grandmother to one. Her twenty years in education includes working for private, charter and public schools. She has a Masters in Reading Language Arts with a focus on Multicultural Literature and a Reading Specialist Credential.
Her quest for writing children’s books began when she was a stay-at-home mom and two of her children did not like their skin. They wanted to be the like the dominant culture of their peers as a means of fitting in. This crisis led to a search for literature and materials that were reflective and affirming. Discovering they were hard to find, she purposed she would create affirming books and materials for African American children and children of color.
She currently serves as a Reading Specialist, teacher and serves as a Board member of Contra Costa Counties, Local Planning Council and Advisory Council. In addition, she is a coach to families in the areas of early literacy strategies and home school success. Phelicia writes to assure students see themselves in the literature.
